Press Release – For Immediate Release – 23 March 2023
BBI Solutions and LAT Water have signed an agreement to install a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant to treat trade effluent and other wastewater produced at BBI’s site at Crumlin, South Wales. The LAT Water plant is a significant investment and will cut BBI’s sewer discharges, reducing the treatment required by Welsh Water as well as generating cost savings for BBI.
The BBI site at Crumlin produces reagents and provides services for the global Medical Diagnostics industry, and is making improvements to its trade effluent process. LAT Water will deliver an energy-efficient solution that will separate and recover a high percentage of clean water. The clean water can be reused on-site reducing BBI’s water needs and related water demand from Welsh Water. With plans for growth and expansion in the future, the LAT Water solution will enable BBI to continue to meet discharge consents.
The LAT Water system is an environmentally friendly process using waste or low-grade heat to recover high-quality clean water from contaminated industrial wastewater in a sustainable process. LAT Water has received multiple awards from Innovate UK and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy for innovative technology.
LAT Water CEO Mark Hardiman commented: “We are excited that BBI have chosen to work with LAT Water on this project. This is an opportunity for us to show that LAT Water can deliver sustainable, low-cost water treatment solutions for the pharmaceutical sector.”
BBI’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Damian Evans commented: ‘The investment and partnership with LAT Water is a significant milestone on our sustainability journey and ensures we further minimise the impact of our operations on the local environment.’
The plant is scheduled to begin operation during the summer of 2023.
